Artist Statement:
Growing up I've felt misunderstood by how I was perceived based on my physical features, a common feeling some of us might experience in life. As technology and social media continue to shape how we present ourselves in online social situations, I become more interested in creating a sense of raw and honest emotion. The ability to edit, upload, and share different images of ourselves can create a separation between the 'person and the profile'. I'm curious how a portrait might tell simple stories in a world full of complicated interactions.
The goal of my artwork is to strike the viewer emotionally and put them in the driver's seat steering the definition of the work. Who are they looking at? What is the figure thinking about? Where is the story taking place? I hope you may find new interpretations from the images inspired by daily observations and imagination.
